ON-SITE CREMATORY
Confidence is Our Commitment
In 2015, in response to our growing concerns with utilization of an off-site crematory, Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations opened our own state-of-the-art crematory in our Blue Ridge facility.
Because our crematory is located within our funeral home facility, your loved one will never leave the care of our staff to a crematory many miles away, where they will be attended to by people you have never even met.
In order to better serve the families and individuals within our community, we chose to operate our crematory privately. This means it is only used for the loved ones of the families we serve and not for the service of other funeral homes.
All Crematories Are Not the Same
When making the decision to cremate, it is important to recognize that there are some very important things to consider when selecting the crematory you will entrust with the care of your loved one.
- Will the crematory provide personal and prompt care of your loved one? This is not always possible for most crematories, because they were built with the intention to serve many funeral homes and cremation societies. This means since your family member is just one of many people transported from locations around the region, you cannot be confident your loved one will undergo the cremation process quickly. These facilities can only complete a limited number of cremations each day.
Here at Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations, we only serve one family at a time. This means your loved one is taken care of by our staff from the moment we are entrusted to escort them to the funeral home, until we meet with you to place them back into the care of your family. - How long will it take to have your loved one returned to you? When a crematory operates in such a way that they must receive, keep track of, and cremate many people each day, your loved one may not be returned to your care for up to two weeks.
Because our private, on-site crematory serves only one family at a time and never leaves our care, your family will not have to wait longer than a few days to receive your loved one. While obtaining the necessary paperwork to begin the cremation process may cause some delay – for example, when the death occurs on a Friday or over the weekend or perhaps the doctor is delayed in returning the necessary paperwork – often families may receive their loved ones’ cremated remains within five days and often even the next day. - Are the crematory operators committed to on-going education? Certification alone does not necessarily guarantee that your loved one and your family will receive the highest level of care and attention. That is where the active pursuit of continuing education courses provided through a recognized agency becomes critically important.
Often times, crematories may employ one or a limited number employees trained as a Certified Crematory Operator to just comply with what the laws governing crematories requires. At Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations, not only do we ensure any of our staff operating our crematory are certified to do so by the National Funeral Directors Association or the Cremation Association of North America, but they are also licensed funeral directors with many years of experience. This means you, your family, and your loved one will receive the highest level of care.
