On May 1st, 2018, Zack Austin Campbell of Morganton, Georgia passed away from an extended illness. Zack was born January 20, 1937 in Cherokee County, North Carolina in the Bear Paw community. He was the son of the late Broadus Henry Campbell and Florence "Flossie" Elizabeth Nancy Payne Campbell. When Zack was a teenager and seeking adventure, he and some of his friends decided to quit high school and join the Army. Zack was the only one who followed through on this venture and spent two years in the military, 1955-57. Part of his time was spent stationed in Germany. Upon his return to the states, Zack married Dolores Queen, enrolled in high school once again, this time at East Fannin High School in Morganton, Georgia, and with great determination to make a better life for his family, admirably graduated in 1961.Zack was a kind, Christian man of strong work ethic and values from his role on the family dairy farm as a young man to his time working in various departments of the Tennessee Chemical Company in Copperhill, Tennessee prior to its closing. In addition to his full- time jobs, he worked a small farm tending cattle and planting gardens to stock the pantries of his family and many neighbors besides. He loved being outside more than any activity. Zack was never a man with idle hands and was always willing to help a person in need.He leaves behind the immediate family of his wife of 57 years, Dolores Campbell, two daughters, Heidi Rule ( Frank), Shannon Fleeman ( Mike), and one grand-daughter, Emily Cannaverde ( Michael). He was a man who will be greatly missed by his loved ones, but he has relinquished his earthly pains and burdens and has gone on to claim his eternal reward.A memorial service in honor of Mr. Campbell was conducted on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge with Rev.
