Obituary

Winston Callihan, age 81, of Cashes Valley passed away peacefully on March 30, 2023. Winston Callihan was born April 4, 1941, in Cashes Valley, Fannin Co. to the late Herdis and Ellen Garrison Callihan. Winston left home in 1960 to join the US Army. He was stationed in Germany and obtained the rank of sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1963. After serving in the Merchant Marines, Winston returned home to work at the Tennessee Chemical Company as a miner until 1987. After that he was a well-known developer in the community. Winston, affectionately known as "Weed", loved spending time riding the roads to visit family and friends. He was also an avid Fannin Rebel Football fan. Winston enjoyed being Poppy to his 6 grandchildren and loved keeping up with all of their many adventures. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Jean (Ilo) Bossen, James Callihan, Estella "Kelly" Ensley, Clara Callihan, Johnny Callihan and Patty Callihan.

Survivors include his wife of the home; Jodie Callihan; children; Derrick (Christine) Callihan, Rachel (Chris) Callihan-Cowart and Sterling (Kimberly) Callihan; grandchildren; Kirsten Callihan, Aubree Pack, Brysen Callihan, Samuel Hyatt, Luke Callihan and Lilly Lovell; siblings; Lillie Mae Cole (Late Cecil), Polly and Jerry Keppel, Lucy Donnelly (Late Dick), Tommy and Alma Callihan, Mary Ellen Callihan and Joanie and Bill Stuart; sisters-in-law, Jean Callihan and Robbi Callihan; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at 3:00 p.m, from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Ricky Hicks and Rev. Byron Ahrens officiating. A eulogy will be provided by Ginger Crouch. Music will be provided by Magan Wood, Lexie and Ben Lamb, Jim Callihan, and Aubree Pack. Military Honors will be provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard and Masonic Rites will be rendered. Interment will follow in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery with the following nephews serving as pallbearers: Jimmy Gindorff, James David Callihan, Ricky Callihan, Timmy Callihan, Eric Donnelly, Chris Ensley, Drue Callihan, and Sean Callihan. Selected to serve as honorary pallbearers are Bobby Callihan, Brian Keppel, Billy Stuart, Samuel Hyatt, Luke Callihan, Dalton Ross, and Toby Watson. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home on Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mt. Moriah Church Cemetery Fund.
