Obituary

Mr. William Guinn Presswood (known to many as Billy or Bill), age 92, of Yountville, California, formerly of Ducktown, Tenn., passed away on September 12, 2023 at the Veterans Home of Yountville. He was a US Army Veteran.

Mr. Presswood was born on November 25, 1930 to Grover Cleveland Presswood and Ada Katherine Waldrop Presswood. He graduated from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville with BS and MS degrees in Microbiology. Following graduation, he worked for Tennessee Valley Authority as Chief Microbiologist for 13 years before moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan to become Senior Microbiologist for Gelman Sciences, where he co-developed a household water filter. He then moved to Pleasanton, California and was employed by Nuclepore as a Microbiologist. Mr. Presswood was included in Who's Who in the American Midwest and was published in the Journal of Industrial Hygiene as well as the Journal of Environmental Microbiology.

While living in Chattanooga, Mr. Presswood enjoyed attending University of Tennessee football games in Knoxville with his brother-in-law Jay Oglesby and nephew John. He was also fond of his visits to meet friends and drink Starbuck's coffee.

Survivors include: sister Betty Oglesby of Decatur, GA, nieces Mary Morgan, Shirley Gagliano, Carolyn Harmeyer, Pam Elmore, and Jeanie Shaw; nephews Chuck Presswood, William K. Presswood, Nathan Presswood, Jack Briard, Tommy Briard, Doug Briard, Greg Briard, and Andy Briard. Mr. Presswood was preceded in death by his siblings Edna Presswood, Robert Presswood, Baby Presswood, Eugenia Addington, Elsie O'Donnell, Evelyn Clayton, Tommy Presswood, and Ernestine Briard.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 27, at 3:00 PM at Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations, 823 Ocoee Street, Copperhill, Tennessee. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Turtletown with Military Honors.

The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the Veterans Home of Yountville for the care and compassion they showed to Mr. Presswood over the years. They would also like to express their thanks to By the Bay Health Hospice during the last four months of Mr. Presswood's life.
