William Carroll, affectionately known to family and friends as "Pedro" Payne, age 45, of Blue Ridge, GA, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009. Mr. Payne was a native of the Copper Basin area and was a member of the Farner Presbyterian Church. He was a devoted husband, father and friend. He was manager of the Mountain Valley Body Shop before his illness. He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Payne, sister, Patricia Payne, nephew, Devin Payne and brother-in-law, Brian Walden.He is survived by his loving wife of twenty five years, Renee Walden Payne of the home; daughter, Kala Payne of Kennesaw, GA; son, Corey Payne of the home; mother, Mary Jo Payne of Farner, TN; Brothers, L.D.& wife, Teresa Payne of LaFayette, GA, Dale & wife Peggy Payne of Riceville, TN, Gary & wife, Sheila Payne of Benton, TN, Tim & wife Amy Payne of Ducktown, TN; brothers-in-law, Crayton & wife Teresa Walden of McCaysville, GA, Dale Walden of Murphy, NC; Several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Dr. Gary Aven and Brother Anthony Wynn officiating. Music was by Vicki Whittenbarger. Pallbearers were Derek Jones, Shawn Twiggs, Danny Raper, Jimmy Dye, Tim Godfrey, and Steve Carter. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Payne, Crayton Walden, Dale Walden, Dan Underwood, and Bob Brock. Interment followed in the Farner Presbyterian Church cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Payne may be made to help defray funeral expenses.
