The Akins Funeral Home of Blue announces funeral services for Mr. William John Nix, age 91, of Morganton, GA who passed away on Thursday January 15, 2009 in Orlando, FL following an extended illness. Born in Fannin County, GA he was the son of the late John Joseph and Dora Lottie Ann Ryder Nix. Later, he moved to Wilmington, DE, where he worked for thirty six years as a Lead Burner. He was a member of the Midway Baptist Church and a member of the Eureka-Dupont Masonic Lodge #23-29 F&A M in Wilmington, Delaware. Mr. Nix was also preceded in death by his wife of many years, Marie Mitchell Nix; daughter, Yvonne Nix; brothers, George, Jess, Floyd and Raymond Nix; sisters, Pauline Davis, Jeanadale Wright and Gertrude Wimpey. Survivors include daughter, Jannefer Gerrity of Winter Springs, FL; two grandsons, Patrick Gerrity of Los Angeles, CA and Kevin Gerrity of Winter Springs, FL.Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday January 21, at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge with Rev. Earl Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery on Airport Rd with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Patrick and Kevin Gerrity, Joe and Steve Hughes.
