The Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces the death of Mr. William Creswell "Bill" Keys, age 85, of Blue Ridge, Ga., who passed away Thursday, December 13, 2007 in the Wellstar at Windy Hill Hospital in Marietta, GA. Born in Byron, GA, he was the son of the late Walter Hill Keys and Vallie Allene Stokes Keys. He worked as a civil service comptroller for the Air Force at Robins Air Force Base. Mr. Keys was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Navy on the USS Santee. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Keys was an avid hiker leading him to found the Blue Ridge Mountain Hikers, he volunteered to the United States Forest Service to help maintain Forest Service trails, he was a pilot and private instructor, and was known for his love of doing for others. He was preceded in death by a son David Roberson; brothers, Cecil Keys and Harris Keys; and a sister Allene Keys. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judy R. Keys; daughter and son-in-law, Susan Keys Long and Ron Long of Blue Ridge, sons and daughters-in-laws, Cres and Wylene Keys of Blue Ridge, Brad Keys of Lincoln, AL, and Danny and Julie Roberson of Haddock, GA; brother-in-law, Cecil Reynolds and his wife Cheryl of Sanford, FL; sister, Dorothy Kerce of Milledgeville, GA; five grandchildren, Tod Keys, Ryan Roberson, Ashley Roberson, Ethan Roberson, and Jonathan Roberson; and one great grandchild, Katherine Keys. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 16, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. from Lebanon Baptist Church with Rev. David McLendon officiating. Music will be by Martha Kreis.
