Mrs. Wanda Vandiver Akins, age 84 of Blue Ridge, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Heritage Health Care of Blue Ridge.She was a native and lifelong resident of Fannin County, daughter of the late Corsie Vandiver and the late Nellie Shelton Vandiver. She had worked in various Doctors offices and had served in the Ladies auxillary at Copper Basin Hospital. More recently she had worked with her late husband, Raymond in their family business, Akins Funeral Home.She was a member of Blue Ridge First Baptist where she had worked with the young people in various church activities. She was a member of the 1946-1947 Fannin Girl's Basketball Team that was recently inducted into the Fannin County Sports Hall of Fame.Surviving are sons and daughter-in-law, Doug and Melba Akins of Epworth, GA and Van Akins of Blue Ridge, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Bill Carlisle of Acworth, GA; sisters, Barbara Crowe, Lois Auito and Brenda Deese-Phillips: nine grandchildren; fourteen great granchildren and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Hoggard and Rev. Bob Richardson officiating. Music was provided by Melba Akins and Imogene Stewart. Grandchildren served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Chastain Memorial Park Cemetery.
