Mr. Walter Thomas Austin Jr., age 82, of Mineral Bluff, Georgia, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, in Canton, Georgia, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on April 19, 1943, in Covington, Georgia, he was the son of the late Walter Thomas Austin Sr. and Dura Edwards Austin.
A man devoted to his faith, Walter was a faithful member of Blue Ridge Methodist Church and and a past member of the Mabel Lodge #255 F&AM in Macon, GA. He spent many years with Eastern Airlines, where he served as a manager.
Walter retired to the North Georgia mountains where he joyfully volunteered, alongside his wife, Brenda, with the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, where he loved meeting people and serving his community. He also worked as a General Manager for Ace Hardware and two other stores.
He was known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to help anyone in need. He enjoyed cooking. Most of all, he loved his family. Walter was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He touched countless lives and stood as a pillar within his church and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Steve Austin.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Brenda Austin; children, Walter Thomas Austin III; James W. Moore III (Pam), and Jeffrey Alan Moore (Kimberly); grandchildren, Jessica Vick, Carson Moore, David Vick, Sydney Moore, and Matthew Moore; brother, Kim Austin; sister, Diane Stewart; numerous extended relatives, and a host of dear friends.
Memorial services to celebrate the life of Walter were held on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. from the Blue Ridge Methodist Church with Rev. Sam Hamby officiating. The family visited with friends at the church prior to the service from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.
