Mr. Wallace Young Ledford, age 88, of the Life Care Center passed away Monday August 15, 2011. Born in Fannin County, GA he was the son of the late William Richard and Essie A. Burns Ledford. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. He retired from Lockheed as an Aircraft Inspector. He was also a member of McCay Lodge #423 F&AM, Scottish Rite and the Yaarab Shrine Temple. Mr. Ledford was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mildred Tipton Ledford and one son-in-law, Frank Gilliam. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Ann Ledford of Copperhill, TN; one daughter, Jackie Gilliam of Smyrna, GA; grandchildren, Frank Gilliam, Jr. Nicholas Gilliam, Tommy James Ledford, Jr. and Jeffrey Burton Ledford; six great grandchildren, Wallace Jackson Ledford, Jessica Conner Ledford, Thomas Daniel Ledford, Brady Gilliam, Reece Gilliam, and Andrew Gilliam. Funeral services were conducted Thursday August 18, at 11:00 a.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Queen and Rev. Matthew McDaniel officiating. Music was provided by Jimmy Helton and Melba Akins. Serving as pallbearers were Joe Ledford, Tommy Ledford, Jr., Jeffrey B. Ledford, Frank Gilliam Jr., Nicholas Gilliam and Jackson Ledford. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Dills, Buck Barclay, Raymond Ross, Paul Hunter, Steve McDaniel and Carl Pack. Interment followed in the Kingtown Cemetery with full military honors provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
