Virginia "Ginger" Francis Chastain-Konerman, age 59, of Orange Park, Florida passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024. She was born at Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, FL to the late James and Sue Chastain.

Ginger will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

A lifelong member of the military family, Ginger lived in many states and several foreign countries, allowing her to make hundreds of lifelong friends, some of whom she texted and Facebooked on a regular basis. She served as the secretary to several Navy Admirals in Naples Italy, where she met her future husband, John. She served as an Ombudsman at several of her husband's naval commands and was instrumental in helping resettle military family evacuees from Guantanamo Bay during early stages of the Global War on Terror. Ginger's empathy seemed to know few boundaries, as she cared for anyone in need, be it a single parent military family needing childcare, or maintaining the stateside grave of a deceased sailor killed in a terrorist attack during her time in Italy. Nurturing by nature, she helped raise an army of kids for other military members and friends and was loved by all that knew her.

Ginger is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, John M. Konerman; sister, Carrie Ellen Chastain-Little; and a very large host of extended family and friends scattered throughout the world.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 1:00 PM from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel, 7871 Blue Ridge Drive, Blue Ridge, GA 30513.
