Mrs. Violet Eliza Callihan, age 87, of Ellijay, GA passed away on Thursday May 28, 2009 in the Heritage Health Care following an extended illness. Born in Fannin County, GA she was the daughter of the late Andrew Napoleon Hughes and Gertrude H. Hughes. She had worked for the Levi Strauss Company for many years and was a long time member of the Barnes Chapel Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, John Logan Nelson, Sr. and Eugene Callihan.Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, John Logan Nelson, Jr. and Lois of Ellijay, GA, and Lindsey Millard Hamby of Epworth, GA; two daughters and one son-in-law, Rowanda Wall of Epworth, GA and Kathy Irene Hamby and Junior Watkins of Chatsworth, GA; brothers, Wilburn Hughes of Ellijay, GA; sisters, Mary Green of Copperhill, TN, Floy Curtis of Epworth, GA, Ellen Milton of Copperhill, TN, and Alwayne Campbell of Copperhill, TN; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive.Funeral services were conducted Sunday May 31, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donald Curtis officiating. Music was provided by Rick Curtis and Judy Shields. Pallbearers were Chance Nelson, Mark Hamby, William Loftis, Arnold Loftis, Jeremiah Watkins, Larry Watkins, and Travis Hamby. Honorary pallbearers were Edward Green, Ernest Hughes, Ray Hughes, T.J. Bennett, and Michael Bennett. Interment followed in the Barnes Chapel Church Cemetery. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to help defray final expenses.
