Mrs. Vernie Mae Foster Green, age 83, of Blue Ridge, formerly of McCaysville passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2010 in the Heritage Healthcare of Blue Ridge. She was born in Fannin County, on March 21, 1927 to the late John Roosevelt and Effie Elizabeth Davenport Foster. Mrs. Green was a "Gold Star Mother". She was the mother of Spec. 4 Robert Green, who died in Vietnam. Mrs. Green was a homemaker who enjoyed oil painting, gardening and flowers. She was a member of Barnes Chapel Baptist Church. Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her husband Jewel Green, son Robert Green and two grandsons, Joshua Green and Jeffery Robert Green. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Brenda Green of Salisbury, NC, Steve and Loraine Green of Blue Ridge, GA and Rev. Jimmy and Angie Green of Epworth, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Winston Garrett of Blue Ridge, GA; sister-in-law, Novella Foster of Blue Ridge, GA; brother, Maford Foster of McCaysville, GA; nine grandchildren, Angel Fair, Julie Green, Keisha Green, Marc Garrett, Heather Garrett, Chris Green, Lisa Azbill, Randy Green and Jennifer Tyner; nine great-grandchildren, Alex Tyner, Jacob Tyner, Caleb Green, Carly Green, Hannah Green, Brittany Galloway, Cole Thomas, Stephen Azbill, Kailey Campbell. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 7, at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Green and Rev. Harold Weeks officiating. Music was by Pat Mashburn and Gilliam Farmer. Pallbearers were James Stepp, Paul Stepp, Gary Foster, Randall Sluder, Chris Hulsey, Greg Hale, Stacy Kinsey and Nathan Fair. Interment followed in the Copper Ridge Memory Garden with Rev. James Galloway officiating. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.come.
