Obituary

Steven Earl Oliver, age 73, passed away at his home on Saturday, March 21,2026, in Gilmer County, with his wife, Becky, by his side. He was born on June 6, 1952, in Blue Ridge, Georgia.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ruth Oliver; his sister, Sharon; his brother, Ted; and his nephew, Anthony Lindner.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Becky McGee Oliver, with whom he would have celebrated 49 years of marriage on April 9; his brothers, Danny (JoAnn) Oliver and Lonnie (Sandra) Oliver; his niece, Sondra (Trever) Arnold; his brothers-in-law, Chuck (Michelle) McGee, Johnny (Angela) McGee, and Kelly McGee; his great-nephews, Matt and Lucas Lindner; his great-nephew, Devin Castle; his niece, Betsy (Heath) Brown; his great-niece, Jessica Arnold; his great-nephew, Ryan Arnold; his nieces, Ginny, Ruby, and Stella McGee; niece, Gabby (Alex) Ward; great-nieces, Nola and Liz Lindner and great-niece, Emma Brown; and great-nephew, Callum Ward.

Steve deeply cherished his family and friends and always strived to live by the Golden Rule. Throughout his life, he held a variety of occupations, including copper miner, U.S. Forest Service employee and forest firefighter, trail builder, and landscaper-roles that reflected his love for the outdoors. He found great joy in hunting, fishing, gardening, and traveling the world. Steve also had a special fondness for animals, especially his cats, Butter and Biscuit. He endeavored to leave a legacy of kindness to all who followed him.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, March 26, at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Funeral & Cremations of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Tim Taylor officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Max Sisson, DeWayne Thomas, Jeff Quinton, John Powell, Ben Encinias, Robert Dobbs, Dan Dimmock, and Eddie Lindsay. Visitation will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the service immediately following at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Steve requested that acts of kindness be performed in his memory.
