Mrs. Stella A. Johnson, age 87, of Epworth, GA passed away on Sunday November 29, 2009. Born in Polk County, TN she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jewell Porter Talley. Mrs. Johnson had worked for forty eight years in sales for Abernathy's Home Furnishings. She was a long time member of the Epworth First Baptist Church where she coordinated the nursery for about forty years. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Friendship Chapter #999 O.E.S., where she received her fifty year pin; and was a member of the Ladies Shrine of the ASEBI court #16 in the Alhambra Temple in Chattanooga, TN. As a longtime volunteer for the Fannin Regional Ladies Auxiliary she served for twenty years. She was also active with the Boy Scouts of America Troop #32 in Epworth, GA. Mrs. Johnson also was a talented quilter and preceded in death by her husband of Homer Johnson, Sr. Survivors include one son Homer Johnson, Jr. of Epworth, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Thomas Rice of Calhoun, GA, sister, Sylvia Godfrey of Blue Ridge, GA; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; special friend, Nancy Foster also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday December 1, at 8:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge with Rev. Chan Mitchell officiating. Music will be provided by Vicky Bice. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Dustin Queen, Jason Queen, Daniel Davenport, Derrick Stewart, Derrick Walden and Terry Brown. The following have been selected to serve as an honorary escort: Alice an Rick Goss, Glen and Ann Tanner, Max and Jerie Pittman, Wayne Queen and Family, Danny Queen and Family, Spence and Kathleen Dilbeck, Norma and Calvin Green and the C.E. Abernathy Family. Interment will follow in the Epworth Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday December 2, at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-9 p.m. and Tuesday evening from 6 p.m until the funeral hour.
