Obituary

The Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces funeral services for Mr. Stanley Daves, age 95, of Morganton, GA who passed away on Monday, November 5, 2007 in the St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Born in Fannin County, GA he was the son of the late George and Nettie Picklesimer Daves. Mr. Daves was a life long farmer and had taught school for seven years in Fannin County also serving as principal for Mineral Bluff School. Later he retired from the Georgia Department of Agriculture as a Field Inspector. He was a long time member of the Wilscott Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and on the Board of Trustees. Mr. Daves was a member of the Ocoee #201 Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty five years, Mrs. Eva Lee Cochran Daves. Stanley was remembered for helping people in his community. He had volunteered for the Fannin Historical Society where he had served as president. Mr. Daves had an incredible memory for this communities' history and the genealogy there in. Survivors include one son and daughter in law, Michael S. and Joane Daves of Morganton, GA; two grandsons, James Michael Daves and Jeffrey Matthew Daves both of Morganton, GA; one great-grandson, Aiden James Daves; brother, Wilson Daves of Morganton, GA; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, November 8th, at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Eric Davenport officiating. Eulogies will be given by Jamie and Jeffrey Daves. Music will be provided by Kerri Thomas and Delores Gibbs. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Ricky Daves, Russell Daves, Tony Daves, Bob Daves, James Earl Daves and Bobby Long. The following were selected to serve as honorary pallbearers: Forrest Queen, Charles Busbin, Dale Dyer, Wayne Allen Cruse, Clyde Cruse, Liz Simonds, Howard Kirby, Frank Tipton and Kinneth Picklesimer, Jr. Interment will follow in the Upper Wilscott Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Rites provided by the Ocoee Masonic Lodge. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon's Memorial Bible Fund. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening after 2:00 p.m. but especially from 6-9 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
