Mrs. Shirley Ann Cox, age 70, of Blue Ridge, Georgia passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

She was born on July 10, 1954 in Young Harris, Georgia to the late J.C. Payne and Annie Ruth Ballew Payne.

She was a member of Coletown Baptist Church. Shirley had a deep love for the outdoors, and found joy in the simple beauty of nature. She enjoyed time spent camping, tending to her yard and flowers, and listening to the songs of the birds. Her greatest joy came from her family, and she especially cherished her grandchildren.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Jimmy Cox; children, Jody Cox (Jenny) and Jason Cox (Holly) of Blue Ridge, Georgia; grandchildren, Caleb Cox, Rachel Cox, Lauren Cox, Jamison Cox, Hannah Cox, and Cassidy Cox; and siblings, Vic Payne of the Hemptown community, Judy McKeral (Jay) of Hiawassee, GA, Ivan Payne of Ellijay, GA, Loretta Payne of the Hemptown community, and Carol Nichols (Bron) of Ellijay, GA.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Billy Ray Queen officiating. Music was provided by the Cox Family. Interment followed in the Sugar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Jody Cox, Jason Cox, Vic Payne, Caleb Cox, Jamison Cox, and Jamey Payne. Serving as honorary pallbearers were: Josh Payne, Matt White, Lee Cox, and Matthew Cox. The family visited with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, May 27, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
