Mrs. Shirley Simonds Barker, age 72, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away on Friday October 16, 2009 in the Fannin Regional Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Fannin County, GA she was the daughter of the late Reid and Berdie Nicholson Carroll. She was a loving homemaker and a devoted member of Damascus Baptist Church. She was also a friend to her community. Survivors include her husband of ten years, Doyle Barker of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Dale Griffith of Blue Ridge; son and daughter-in-law, Marion and Kathy Simonds of Blue Ridge; step daughters, Sherri Shutte and Jennifer Teixera both of Murphy, NC; sister, Loretta Jones of Blue Ridge; grandchildren, Holly Simonds, Bryan Griffith, Caroline Shutte, Victoria Shutte and Elizabeth Shutte and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday October 18, at 2:00 p.m. from the Damascus Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Dan Wilkins officiating. Music was provided by the Beach Family. Interment followed in the Church cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Ricky and Randy Beach, David White, Dale Griffith, Tommy Grindstaff, and Garland Nicholson.
