Shelvia Jean Grant, age 83, of McCaysville, GA, passed away May 17, 2022, surrounded by her family. Shelvia was born in Scottdale, GA, to the late Edgar and Verna Martin Sweat. A woman of deep Christian faith, she enjoyed worshiping God through song at church. Her devotion was evident in many capacities, including singing with the Curtis Hudson Quartet. She was talented with all types of sewing and quilting, even making dresses for her daughters and clothing for their dolls. Shelvia also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and making pieces of art with them. She loved spending time with her family, especially time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two siblings, Betty Austin and Diann Sanarella. Survivors include her loving husband, William Charles "Bunk" Grant; daughters and son-in-law: Vicki Grant and Wanda and Gary Wolfe; grandchildren and their spouses: Dillon and Mallory Pickard, Rebecca and Billie Spence, and James and Kenna Wolfe; great-grandchildren: Bronwyn and Dalton Jones, Carter Pickard, Abby Pickard, Henry Wolfe, Knox Puckett, Reed Puckett, and Jack Puckett; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 7 p.m., from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel, with the Rev. Joel Chastain officiating. Music will be provided by Judy Hicks. Interment will follow Friday, May 20, 2022, at noon, in the Lawnwood Cemetery in Covington, GA. The following gentlemen will be serving as pallbearers: Dillon Pickard, James Wolfe, Gary Wolfe, Ricky Hicks, John Hicks, and Dalton Jones. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, May 19, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., prior to the service.
