Shelbia Jean Wimberley, age 77, of McCaysville, GA passed away Monday, December 25, 2017 at her home. Mrs. Wimberley was born in Copperhill, TN on April 23, 1940. She worked as Finance Director for the Fannin County Board of Education. Mrs. Wimberley was a member of the First Baptist Church of McCaysville/Copperhill, the McCaysville O.E.S., the Retired Educators of Fannin County, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Epworth Community Club. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenny Wimberley, who passed away in 2011; her parents, Oscar E. McArthur and Beatrice Grizzle McArthur; and siblings, Betty McArthur, Lloyd McArthur, Shirlene McArthur, and Farrish McArthur. She is survived by her husband, William Glenn "Nick" Wimberley of McCaysville, GA; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Mary Wimberley of Suwanee, GA; and a daughter-in-law, Tracy Wimberley of Rock Springs, GA.She graduated from West Fannin High School in 1958, and enjoyed meeting with the "Girls of '58" for lunch. She also graduated from Tift College in Forsyth, GA; and from Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, GA.When she began work at Fannin County Board of Education, the system used either paper and pen, or a typewriter. During her 36 years there, the system went from typewriter and paper and pen into the computer age. She had a reputation for always being willing to help with concerns about insurance and retirement questions, being a great resource for those needing assistance. She was a talented person, playing both piano and organ when she attended Fairview Baptist Church. Having a gift for arts and crafts, she attended John C. Campbell Folk School to develop her skills at knitting and weaving. She became known as the "Queen of Sock Knitting" and enjoyed knitting wool socks for Christmas gifts for her cousins. She taught knitting at the Mountain Arts Association Fiber Arts, and at sessions of the sewing circle at her Church. She was proud of the fact she hiked and camped on the Appalachian Trail, and once traveled to the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River where she was able to place one foot on each side to that river. She hiked and camped on Jacks River, to the Tennessee River Gorge, and had the opportunity to hike the length of the Ocoee River Flume line while it was being rebuilt. She and husband Nick enjoyed the Blue Ridge Parkway, having traveled its entire length but especially enjoyed its southern terminus, visiting there often. An excellent cook and baker, she was well known for her Italian Crme Cake and Coconut Pound Cakes. Loving flowers, she planted a great variety around her home, but especially loved Geraniums like the one's her Grandmother McArthur had. She and husband Nick were childhood sweethearts, marrying in 1960. They were not only a married couple, but one another's best friend. A beautiful woman, with a beautiful smile and a beautiful personality, she will be missed by many. Funeral Services were conducted Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of McCaysville/Copperhill with Rev. Matthew McDaniel and Rev. Harry Gilbert officiating. A eulogy was provided by Mr. Morgan Arp. Music was by Rev. Harry Gilbert, Sally Jones, and Clarence Burlingame. A video song entitled "You're the Story of My Life" was provided by First Baptist Church of McCaysville/Copperhill. Pallbearers were Carl Grizzle, Larry Collis, Morgan Arp, Tom Foster, Eugene White, Jack Suits, and Shannon Payne. Honorary pallbearers wer Will Panter, Shawn Curtis, Roy Dean Hughes, Roy Grizzle, Cecil Davis, Jerry Estes, Rob Stuart, West Fannin Class of 1958, and Mountain Arts Association Fiber Arts Group. Interment followed in Crestlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Improvement Funds in care of First Baptist Church of McCaysville/Copperhill at P.O.
