Mrs. Selena Vesta LaMar of Newborn, passed away Monday, June 15, 2009 at the age of 76 following an extended illness. Selena was born on December 17, 1932 in Mims, FL to Homer and Annie Hallum. She was the oldest of four children and the only girl.Although Selena worked various jobs over the years none was as rewarding to her as being a caregiver. First to her children, then in 1970, she was moved to Jasper County to care for her brother who passed last year. She began raising her first granddaughter in the 70's, and the second came along in the '90s, both calling her "Mom." During the 70's and 80's, she was also a foster mom to many kids.Survivors include her brother, 3 children, 5 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.Graveside services were conducted Friday, June 19, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. from Colwell Baptist Church with Rev. Glen Collis officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Colwell Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 211 W. Oak Crest Road, Epworth, GA 30541.
