Ruth Newton, age 89 of Blue Ridge passed away Friday, August 10, 2018 at Pruitt Health Care. Mrs. Newton was born on September 18, 1928 in Mineral Bluff to Arthur William Henson and Mary Magnus Henson. She was the last of thirteen children. Mrs. Newton was a housekeeper instructor. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Mineral Bluff. Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles E. Newton; sons, Larry Edward Newton and Sammy John Newton; granddaughter, Sherry Culberson; brothers, Ralph, Charlie, Leonard, Everett, Grady and Bill Henson; sisters, Mattie Wise and Mimi Gibbs.She is survived by daughters, Jane Newton of Blue Ridge, GA, Martha Marie Chapman of Blue Ridge, GA and Debra Marsh of Lebanon, OH; sons, William Douglas Newton of Mineral Bluff, GA and Frank Jeffery Newton of Blue Ridge, GA; grandchildren, Mary McCall, Jamie Hensley, Troy Newton, Ken Newton, Stephanie Ingle, Bryan Newton, Heather Ambrose, Jennifer Newton, Jackie Mitchell, Jamie Canada, Melissa Graham, Samantha Spears, Adam Buckner, Ashley Hosick and Penny Kapanowski; thirty great-grandchildren and twelve great-great-grandchildren also survive.Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, 2:00 p.m. at the Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. David Henson officiating. Music was provided by Paula Ray Culver. Pallbearers were Jamie Hensley, Matthew Graham, Troy Newton, Kenny Newton, Bryan Newton, Dwayne Ingle, Matt Ingle, and Jeff Newton. Honorary Pallbearers were the nieces and nephews. Interment followed in the Pleasant Hill (Hardscrabble) Baptist Church Cemetery.
