Ruth Hawkins, age 80, of Murphy, NC passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Sonshine Manor in Blairsville, GA. Ruth was born on August 31, 1941 in Dial, GA to the late Robert Cole Long and Sienna Farmer Long. She was on Baptist faith, and Ruth loved going to church and spending time with her church family. She loved shopping and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She attended New Liberty Baptist Church for many years. Ruth is also preceded in death by her siblings, Bunyon Long, Frank Long, John Long, Betty Cochran, Grace Painter, Willie Farmer, Jane Ledford, Carrie Conley, and Myrtle Long. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bill Hawkins of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Betty Hawkins of Murphy, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Roxie and Billy Long of Morganton; sister, Ruby Boone of McDonough, GA; sister-in-law, Donna Truelove of Buford, GA; grandchildren, Chase (Lety) Hawkins, David (Jessica) Long, Kimberly (Drew) Deaver, and Casey Hawkins; great-grandchildren, Hudson Long, Gunner Deaver, Luke Hawkins, Paisley Deaver, and Hannah Hawkins; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Wallace Parks officiating. Music will be provided by Linda Ware, Ivy Bice, and Diana Odom. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Murphy, NC. Pallbearers will be David Long, Chase Hawkins, Casey Hawkins, Danny Henson, Larry Farmer, and Raymond Long.
