Ruby Joyce Sowers, age 99, of Blue Ridge, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at her home. She was born in McCaysville on February 6, 1924, to the late William Lester Parris and Lillie Davis Parris of Blue Ridge. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Marjoire Parris Hardy of Blue Ridge; brothers, Robert Lee Parris of Blue Ridge and Bill Parris of Ellijay; and her husband, William H. Sowers of Blue Ridge.

Ruby graduated from school in 1942. She worked as a school teacher at Jacks River School and Red Bush School, both in Fannin County in the mid 1940s. After marrying in 1946, she became a housewife for the rest of her life.

Ruby is survived by her son, Bill (Rhonda) Sowers of Blue Ridge; special niece, Vicky Wilson (Jim) Hughes of Blue Ridge; grandsons, Eric Sowers and Nathan (Hope) Sowers, both of Blue Ridge; great-grandchildren, Nathalie Sowers and Grayson Sowers of Blue Ridge; great-niece Amanda Shirey of Conifer, CO and other nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the Sugar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Scott Baugh officiating. Pallbearers will be Eric Sowers, Nathan Sowers, Ronnie Anderson, Mike Anderson, Butch Anderson, W.L. Parris, Albert Sowers, and Grayson Sowers.
