Obituary

Mr. Robert "Bowser" Hughes, age 74, of Turtletown, TN passed away Saturday, October 13, 2007 in the Copper Basin Medical Center in Copperhill, TN. Born in Polk County, TN, he was the son of the late Christopher Columbus Hughes and Madeline Arizona Dale Hughes. He retired from Cities Service as a pipefitter after twenty-six years of service. Mr. Hughes was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He served as Polk County Clerk and Road Superintendent for eight years at each position. He is survived by his wife, Glouretta Patterson Hughes of Turtletown, TN; two daughters, Tammy Smith of Turtletown, TN and Rhonda Jarvis of McCaysville, GA; three brothers, Doad Hughes of Liberty, NC, Glen Hughes of Turtletown, TN and Lewis Hughes of Land O'Lakes, FL; sister, Betty Helton of Isabella, TN; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Monday, October 15, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Charlie Ivey and Rev. G.W. Mathis officiating. Music was by Edward Vest and Raven Welch. Interment followed in the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jimmy Hemmings, Ronnie Smith, Jr., Jimmy Smith, Cagney Hughes, Don Dilbeck, and Doug Dilbeck. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Baliles, Gerald (Polio) Hughes, Tommy Taylor, Rickey Cochran, Randy Adcock, and Truman Helton. Condolences may be sent to the Hughes family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
