Robert Earl Greene, age 97, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away on April 30, 2019 in the Fannin Regional Hospital. Born in Fannin County, GA, he was the son of the late Talton and Frances Conley Greene. Robert was a proud veteran serving in the United States Navy during WWII during 1942 to 1946. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Blue Ridge Lodge #67 F&AM. In his earlier years he worked for Taliaferro Dairy and later retired from Coble Dairy after many years of service. However, Robert was most noted for serving as Mayor of Blue Ridge for twenty four years. He was proud of his community and country and served both well during his life. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Geneva Kinser Greene; brother-in-law "considered as a son", Ralph Kinser; brothers, Red Greene, Check Greene, Luke Greene, Jim Greene, Gene Greene; sisters, Euzella G. Setser, Alama "Sis" Greene and Hettie Greene. Robert was the last of nine children. Survivors include his sister-in-law, Monetta Kinser; grandchildren, Denise and Rev. Richard Campbell and Karen Quinn all of Blue Ridge, GA; three great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren; and a multitude of other family members and friends. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Worley and Rev. Nathan Campbell officiating. Music was provided by the O'Zion Baptist Church Choir. Interment followed in the O'Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Kyle Quinn, Tommy Phillips, Johnny Scearce, Reid Mathis, Anthony Greene and Demetrius Wilson. The following have been selected to serve as honorary pallbearers: George Greene, James Barnes, Jim Robinson, Rev. Max Curtis, Bill Sowers and former and current City Council members.
