Robert "Bob" Benard

Mr. Robert Benard "Bob" Phillips, age 100, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away on December 16, 2024. Bob was born in McCaysville, GA to the late Nathaniel "N.T." and Birdie Cabe Phillips.
Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of seventeen and served in Europe during WWII. Before leaving for the war, Bob married his bride of 80 years, Betty McGaha Phillips. They had two daughters, Diane Pinkard and Cheryl Tipton. Bob worked as a boilermaker for the Tennessee Chemical Company, retiring in 1986. He was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed being everyone's handyman, fishing, telling jokes, listening to gospel and country music on his record player, and sharing various stories about his life and being in the army. He especially enjoyed bragging about his family and showing off pictures of the grandkids and great-grandkids.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter and son-in-law Diane and Dan Pinkard; grandson Daniel "Lanny" Pinkard Jr.; brothers Earl, Frank, James, Herdis, Bill, Joe, and Gene Phillips; sisters Annie Ruth Hill and Peggy Hurst Goode.
Survivors include his wife, Betty McGaha Phillips; daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Roy Tipton; grandchildren Lisa Pinkard Acree, Christy Tipton Krohn and husband Toby Krohn, and Kelly Tipton Turpin; great-grandchildren Ryan Acree, Morgan Krohn, Braden Krohn, and Emily Krohn; sister-in-law Bobbie Phillips; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel on Saturday, December 21, 2024 with Rev. Daniel Postell officiating. Eulogies were provided by Lisa Acree, Christy Krohn and Kelly Turpin. Music was provided by Paula Ray Culver and Roy Tipton. The family visited with friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Military honors were provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Interment followed in the Copper Ridge Memory Gardens with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Roy Tipton, Toby Krohn, Braden Krohn, Dewayne Housley, Arvil Mealer, and Jeremy Tipton. Honorary pallbearers will include Phil Hurst, John Phillips, Steve Phillips, Gary and Richard Kilpatrick.
