IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Joseph
Wazeter
March 25, 1946 – May 24, 2025
Richard Joseph Wazeter, 79, passed away on May 24, 2025, in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
Born on March 25, 1946 in Jersey City, New Jersey, Richard was the son of Victor and Mildred Wazeter. He grew up in Hillsdale, New Jersey, and graduated from Pascack Valley High School in 1964. With a deep commitment to education, he later earned a bachelor's degree from St. Francis College in 1977.
Throughout his life, Richard's heart was devoted to his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice Wazeter; his parents; and his brother, Robert Wazeter. In recent years he found companionship and joy with his fiancée, Carol Correia.
Richard was the proud father of three daughters: Laura Wyton, Sheila Duran, and Barbara Robb; grandfather of Jordan Pifer; Alyssa and Jenna Mathis; and Brandyn, Kyle, Andrew, and Matthew Robb; and great-grandfather of Reign, Archer, and Aurelia Robb - who all brought him immense pride and happiness.
Richard's Army career began in 1966 as a Military Police Officer. Recognizing an affinity for law enforcement, he earned his promotion to Warrant Officer in the Criminal Investigation Division in 1972. Through talent, hard work, and dedication, he quickly rose through the ranks, achieving Chief Warrant Officer 4 by the end of his distinguished career. Recognizing the importance of lifting those around him, Richard became a friend and mentor to his military family who affectionately referred to him as "The Waz".
Richard retired from the Army in 1993 after 27 years of service. His highest awards include the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal. Post retirement, he continued his service as a civilian Family Advocate Advisor and Administrator of Reserve Components for the Fort Stewart G1.
Richard, more casually known as Rich, loved to socialize and talk to people when out and about. To waitstaff, bartenders and grocery clerks, he offered jokes that usually hit their mark but were even funnier when they didn't. Believing everyone deserved notice, he took the time to comment on something special about each person like a hat or a smile - and never failed to admire their dogs. He was a popular addition to every party.
Skiing, scuba diving, golf, and cars were all passions of Rich. He also enjoyed making things, whether it was a leather belt, hand-crafted knife, or delicious home-cooked meal made from scratch. Fishing, woodworking, and board games filled his time in recent years along with some exciting travel. Even significant health issues in his early 70s could not dim his appreciation for living.
Those who knew Richard will remember him for the life he built through dedication to family, his career, and perseverance through life's challenges. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.
