Richard Carlton Messer, age 70 of Blue Ridge GA passed away Friday, December 15, 2017 at Union General Hospital in Blairsville, GA. Mr. Messer was born on November 28, 1947 in Blue Ridge, GA to the late William and Ruby Bell Messer. He worked forty-three years for the United States Postal Service as a mail truck carrier. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Billy Messer, Bob Messer and Barry Messer and sisters, Barbara Reichert, Brenda Minick and Linda Stiles. Survivors are his wife, Linda Sue Messer; son, Tim Messer; daughter, Tina Rhodes (David); daughter-in-law, Denise Messer; brothers, Buck Messer (Shirley), Benny Messer (Patsy) and Danny Messer (Glenda); sisters, Deborah Gravely and Joy Messer; grandchildren, Jacob Rhodes, Ashley Rhodes and Tyler Messer. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 2:00 pm from the Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. James Minick and Rev. Terry Thrasher officiating. Music will be by Kenny ONeal. Pallbearers will be James Messer, Billy Joe Messer, Mike Smith, Jim Robinson, Harold Messer and Donnie Price. Honorary Pallbearer will be Gary Davenport. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, December 18, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge.
