Richard Allen McNelley, a life-long resident of Blue Ridge, passed away in his home on Monday, November 20th, 2023 at the age of 76.

Rick was survived by his sister, Jackie Watkins; daughter, Vanessa McNelley; Son, Wesley McNelley; Daughter-in-law, Amanda McNelley; Granddaughters, Rylie Springer, Eva McNelley and Madison Moore; Grandson, Nathan Moore; and Grand dogs, Julia Child McNelley and Hank McNelley. He is preceded in death by wife, Yvonne McNelley; Brother, Stewart (Tuey) McNelley, and his parents.

Richard was born on May 19th, 1947 to John Wesley and Mildred McNelley. After High School, Richard was drafted and served in the United States Army as a member of the Honor Guard. After his time in service, he worked in Artist Relations at Liberty Records in Atlanta, GA.

Richard missed Blue Ridge and returned home and worked at "The Company" in Copperhill, TN until he and his wife decided to venture out into the business world. Over the years, Richard owned several Video Stores (w/Business Partners), Movie Theaters, Steakhouse, and Home Health Business.

Richard was known as the "Movie Guy" and known for his spirit of giving. His compassion and heart for others was apparent, as he was always willing to help others without judgement.

Richard was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge and was proud that the church was started by his family in 1888. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Dr. Rusty Thomas officiating. Entombment will follow in the McKinney Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Jody Wilson, Tate Eaton, Michael Eaton, Justin Dover, Jack Taylor, and Michael Callaway. Selected to serve as honorary pallbearers are: Eric Watkins, Nathan Moore, Carlos Wilson, Oscar Buchanan, Lynn Kissellburg, Jerry Burnette, Bobby Buchanan, William Welch, Tank Turner, and Bill Trotter. Friends may visit on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the Akins-Cobb of Blue Ridge after 2:00 p.m., however, the family will especially meet with friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge Ministry may be made directly to the giving fund (https://blueridgefbc.givingfuel.com/giving)
