Obituary

The Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces the death of Rev. Douglas Williamson, age 67, of Epworth, GA who passed away Monday, July 27, 2009 at his home. He was born in Fannin County, GA on April 26, 1942 and was the son of the late Keen Williamson and Nora Haseltine Hallum Williamson. Rev. Williamson served as pastor for Sugar Creek Baptist Church, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Hothouse Baptist Church, Barnes Chapel Baptist Church, and Colwell Baptist Church and participated in many revivals in the North Georgia area for 36 years of his ministry. At the time of his death, Mr. Williamson was a member of Colwell Baptist Church. Mr. Williamson was a graduate of Berry College and went on to teach school in the Fannin County School System for 30 years. Mr. Williamson was also a member of Blue Ridge Mason Lodge #67 F&AM.He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Daniel Miller of Newton, MA; son, Barry Williamson of Atlanta, GA; brother, Guinn Williamson of Epworth; sisters, Willa Dean Chastain and Hattie Watson, both of Epworth; and one grandson, Jackson Miller of Newton, MA. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. from Colwell Baptist Church with Rev. J.D. Thomas, Rev. Harold Weeks, and Rev. Glen Collis officiating. Music will be by Jimmy and Barbara McVey, John Chastain, Ryan Chastain, Patty Hensley and Jeannie Watson. Pallbearers will be Wesley Chastain, Brandon Williamson, Cory Callihan, Scott Graham, Zachary Adams, Mike Williamson, Mark Williamson, and Rickey Chastain. Honorary pallbearers will be Cody Williamson, Ryan Chastain, Gerald Williamson, John Chastain, Morris Callihan, Ronnie Hensley, Thomas Graham, Jim Adams, Joseph Adams, and all area ministers. Interment will follow in Colwell Church Cemetery. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday and the family will especially meet with friends from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.
