Rev. Alton Eugene Towe, age 91, of Mineral Bluff, GA passed away June 29, 2017 at his home. He was born in Cherokee County, GA to the late Melvin Fred Towe and Pearl Missouri Key Towe. Rev. Towe was a combat veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII. He also served as a Ordained Baptist Minister for 65 years having pastored several churches including: Victory Baptist Church in Blairsville, GA, Southside Baptist Church in Hazelhurst, GA, Friendship #3 Baptist Church in Epworth, GA and West End Baptist Church in New Port, TN. He shared the gospel for over 35 years on the radio broadcast "The Amazing Grace Hour". He retired from Chemical Leaman Tank Lines after a long career as a Truck Driver. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Doris Towe Green, Billy Towe, Ladele Towe, Jerry Towe, and Elaine Towe Ayers; and granddaughter, Anna Cernyar. Survivors include his wife, Louise Towe of the home; daughters, Joan Smith and Barbara Presley of Lindale, GA; son, Alton "Al" Eugene Towe, Jr. of Mineral Bluff, GA; sister, Desma Chastain of Naples, FL; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and special caregiver, Nicole Davenport. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Knight, Rev. Barry Snapp, and Rev. Randy Hughes officiating. The following gentlemen were selected to serve as pallbearers: Joel Chastain, Greg Towe, Steve Towe, Ray Towe, Tim Towe and Jim Ballew. The following gentlemen were selected to serve as honorary escort: Michael Chastain, Freddie Ballew, Joe Ballew, Marty Ballew, Scott Towe, Todd Towe, Phillip Towe, Brandon Presley, David Ryals, Doug Ryals, Trey Towe, and Ministers of the Morganton-Mountaintown Baptist Association. Interment followed in the Copper Ridge Memory Gardens with full military honors provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Donations in memory of Rev.
