Rev. J.D. Thomas, age 91, of Cartersville, GA, formerly of Blue Ridge,GA, passed away on August 17, 2015. Born in Fannin County, GA he was the son of the late Rev. Thomas Luther Thomas and Hattie Chastain Thomas. He retired from the Tennessee Copper Company where he worked for 42 years. Rev. Thomas was saved at the age of 15 and ordained in 1951 as a Baptist Minister. He had pastored 12 different churches in the area. He was also a member of McCay Lodge #423 F&AM. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Ruby Thompson Thomas. Survivors include his current wife, Minnie Weeks Thomas of Blue Ridge; son, Rev. Benny Thomas of Rydal, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Gwen Thomas Wingard and Doug of Rydal, GA; sister, Ruby Lee Bennett of Blue Ridge, GA; 4 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from the Barnes Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Thrasher and Rev. Billy Cantrell officiating. Music was provided by the Casteel Family. Interment followed in the Copper Ridge Memory Gardens with Rev. Harold Weeks officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Dr. Scott Wingard, Steve Paige, Chris Brown, Tripp Nelson, James Edward McGill and Johnny Montgomery. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Jackson Wingard, Parker Wingard, Cameron Brown, J.D. Paige, Jacob Paige, Ivy Nelson, Cole Nelson and all local area Ministers.
