Rev. Edward Godfrey, age 73, went home to be with the Lord on May 17, 2012. He was born in McCaysville, GA to the late Jiles Edward "Bud" and Malone Colwell Godfrey. He served his country in the United States Army and was a retired Electrican having worked for both TVA and the Tennessee Copper Company. Rev. Godfrey was a dedicated Baptist Minister for forty five years and had pastored many area churches. Others who precede him in death are two siblings, Rick Godfrey and Linda Godfrey.Survivors include his wife of fifty years on October 5th Maxine Hughes Godfrey of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Lisa Godfrey of Cumming, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Mark Washam of Ellijay, GA; grandchildren, Danielle Washam, Lindsey Godfrey, Austin Washam and Ansley Godfrey; brother and sister-in-law, Marty and Beverly Godfrey of Blairsville, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Jane and David Reeves of Woodstock, GA.Funeral Services were conducted on Sunday May 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Kingtown Baptist Church with Rev. Claude Mathis and Rev. Marty Godfrey officiating. Music was provided by Billy Wayne Chastain and Jeanie Watson. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Austin Washam, Mark Washam, Tim Cochran, Marc Cochran, Tommy Grindstaff and Tommy Davis. Military Honors were provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Kingtown Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
