Rev. Lon Junior Dockrey, 88, of Mc Caysville, GA, passed away March 20, 2012.. Born in Fannin County, GA he was the son of the late Lon Devo and Josie Cearley Dockrey. He served in the United States Army during WWII where he received the Purple Heart. He was also a long time member of the Damascus Baptist Church where he served as church clerk and Adult Sunday School teacher. Rev. Dockrey worked for the Tennessee Chemical Company as a Carpenter. He was also preceded by his first wife of thirty five years Beulah Mae Nichols Dockrey and his second wife of thirty one years, Cora Mae Lackey Dockrey; three brothers, Ralph, Clinton and Cecil Dockrey; and two sisters, Evelyn Grindstaff and Susie Hughes.Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-laws, Lon Gerald and Nancy Dockrey of Epworth, GA, William Young and Sheila Nadine Dockrey of McCaysville, GA, James Michael and Genevieve "Tiny" Dockrey of Blue Ridge, GA and Alfred Jerome and Robin Dockrey of Blue Ridge, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Doris Dockrey of Calhoun, GA; one sister, Odissa Self of Ducktown, TN; seventeen grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday March 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Collis and Rev. Glen Collis officiating. Music will be provided by the A C Caylor Family. Interment will follow in the Copper Ridge Memory Gardens with Rev. Harold Willis officiating and full military Honors will be provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Billy Dockrey , Kevin Dockrey, Jeff Dockrey, Jeff McDaniel, Joe Hughes and Ricky Dockrey. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Michael Carl Dockrey, Larry Wehunt, Anthony Hughes, Nathan Sutton, Kevin Sutton, Junior Beach, Edward Lewis, Garland Nicholson, Tommy Grindstaff, Alan Chancey and David Mashburn. In Lieu of Flowers the family request that donations be made to the Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Garland Nicholson 205 Nicholson Dr. Blue Ridge, GA 30513.
