Rev. Gregory Lane Abernathy, age 48, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at his home. He was born in Polk County, TN on September 1, 1960. He was of the Baptist faith, a minister and was preceded in death by his father Paul Bernell Abernathy. He is survived by his wife, Mary Abernathy of Blue Ridge, GA; son, Derrick Abernathy of Blue Ridge, GA; mother, Retheal Abernathy of Peachtree, NC; brothers, John F. Abernathy and Bryan P. Abernathy, both of Peachtree, NC; sisters, Eva M. Abernathy of Peachtree, NC, Mary A. Haigler of Murphy, NC, and Paula K. Abernathy of Hendersonville, NC; aunts and uncles, James and Betty Bell of Culberson, NC, Harley and Rachel Bell of Mineral Bluff, GA, John and Bonnie Watkins of Blue Ridge, GA and Lawrence and Barbara Bell; aunt, Frances Asher of Ellijay, GA; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ledford of Hayesville, NC.Funeral services were conducted Sunday, February 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Gene Ware and Rev. Don Miller officiating. Music was by The Traveling Pilgrims. Pallbearers were Daniel Ledford, Chris Cole, Mark Newberry, Ray Queen, Mike Thomas, and Lynn Bell.
