Rena Sue Dixon, age 88, of Murphy, NC passed away on November 18, 2023 in the Murphy Rehab and Nursing. She was born in the Hothouse community of Cherokee County, NC on July 3, 1935, to the late Harley and Florence Ballew Golden. Rena worked as a sewing machine operator for many years for several sewing plants in the area. She was a long time member of the Hopewell Baptist Church. Rena was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Clifton Whitener and Jack Dixon and two sisters and their spouses, Arlene (Earl) Withrow and Edwina (Ben) Hughes.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Steve (Debbie) Whitener; brother, Hayden Richard Golden; grandchildren, Stephanie (Casey) Jennings, and Rachel Whitener; great-grandchild, Ethan McLean; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, November 20, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Don Padgett officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Rose Jones. Interment followed in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Murphy, NC with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Joe Wood, Casey Jennings, Paul Ledford, Ethan McLean, Travis Sinard, and Joseph Crowe. Danny Whitener served as honorary pallbearer.
