IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Regina
Hines
January 18, 1931 – December 22, 2022
Regina Flood Hines, age 91, passed away on December 22, 2022 in Jasper, GA. She was born on January 18, 1931 in East Orange, NJ. Regina was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and friend to many. Regina who was formerly of Cherokee County, GA was a very active and instrumental member of the community. While raising her children she was very involved in her Baptist faith, instilling in them the importance of their faith. Regina was independent and hard working. During her time in Cherokee County, GA she taught swimming lessons and CPR in many cases to three generations of families. At that time, a Red Cross Chapter had not been established in the area and she was a part of that formation as well. Later in life, Regina became a creative and resourceful fiber artist, and was referred to as "that kudzu lady." As a young child, she learned the art of weaving by working with her family. Regina began creating baskets of different styles made from the pesky kudzu plant. Her art work became so popular that State of Georgia commissioned her to weaver one hundred baskets each year for the next four years, which were then brought to Washington, D.C. and presented to legislators during National Tourism Week. Regina was also talented with several other mediums, including copper work, enameling and creating jewelry. She shared her talents by teaching workshops at the John C. Campbell Folk School; the Gilmer Arts and Heritage Association in Ellijay, GA and the Quinlan Arts Center in Gainesville, GA. Her love, patience and willingness to teach will be missed by many.
Preceding her in death includes her parents, James Joseph Flood and Ethel Catherine Canouva; husband of 66 years, Nevine Reginald Hines; children, William Hines and Victoria Hines Vest; and grandchild, Zachariah Vest.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter in law, David Hines of Canton, GA, and Steve and April Hines of Copperhill, TN; grandchildren, Jeremiah Vest, Luke Hines, Brittany Barbour, and Drew Morrow; great grandchildren, Notla Barbour, Clayton Barbour, Creed Barbour, Caleb Lane Broome, and Noah Broome.
