Mrs. Rebecca Jane "Becky" (German) Thurman, age 97, McCaysville, GA, passed away Friday, June 13, 2008, at her home. Born in Fannin County, she was the daughter of the late William and Jeanie Lou Kincaid German. Becky, as she was affectingly known to everyone, was a homemaker, loved her church and enjoyed cooking. She enjoyed making baby blankets in which she gave to all her friends and relatives. Becky was the oldest member of First Baptist Church of McCaysville-Copperhill where she was involved in many church activities. She was involved in the Birthday Club and Jessie Ward Mission Circle. Becky was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Glenn Thurman; twin sons, William Lynn Thurman and Robert Glenn Thurman; daughter, Jean T. Adams; six brothers and five sisters; two grandsons, Robert Lee Thurman and Paul Thurman Ellis.Survivors include, three daughters and sons-in-law, Doris (Thurman) and James Quillen of Blairsville, GA, Helen (Thurman) and Edward Bailey of Blue Ridge, GA and Marlene (Thurman) and Jim Greene of Decatur, GA; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of McCaysville-Copperhill with Rev. Garry Barber and Rev. Cecil Clegg officiating. Music was provided by Rev. Harry and Katie Gilbert, Douglas Glenn Greene and Julia Greene. Tribute was give by Kay Hood Brown. Pallbearers were Mark Greene, Douglas Greene, Bobby Ellis, Jim Bailey, Jay Adams, and Ralph Thurman. Honorary Pallbearers were The Jessie Ward Mission Circle, Barbara Hughes' Sunday School Class, and The Birthday Club. Interment followed in Crestlawn Cemetery.
