Mr. Ray Adams, age 83, of Farner, TN passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013 in the Copper Basin Medical Center. Ray was born in Farner and was a son of the late Luther and Ethel Bryant Adams. He was retired from the US Postal Service having served as Postmaster at the Farner Post Office and also had farmed for many years. He was a member of the New Zion Baptist Church, serving as the Oldest Deacon. He was a member of the Ducktown Masonic Lodge # 241. Ray was an avid fisherman among his hobbies. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Blanche Morrow. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty three years, Betty Newman Adams of the home; children and their spouses, Steve and Patricia Adams of Farner, TN, Linda and Chuck Gilreath of Loudon, TN, Tom and Terri Adams of Farner, TN, Paul and Sharon Adams of Mineral Bluff, GA; brother, Wade Adams of Knoxville, TN; sisters, Dean Derrick of Etowah, TN, Alene Davis of Brandon, FL, Lennie Stansbury and Madge Jackson, both of Kingston, TN; eight grandchildren Julie Wilson,Phillip Adams, Miranda Shields, Adam Gilreath, Laura Collis, Grant Gilreath, Rebekah Adams and Luke Adams; six great-grandchildren Ivie Wilson, Iris Wilson, Ireland Wilson, Josie Adams, Silas Adams and Zoe Green ; many other relatives and friends survive.Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, September 8th at 2:00 p.m. from the New Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Adams and Rev. Larry Weaver officiating. Music will be by Phillip & Sarah Adams and Steve & Patricia Adams. Pallbearers include Phillip Adams. Adam Gilreath, Grant Gilreath, Luke Adams, Bill Newman and Tim Payne. Honorary Pallbearers include Dwight Morrow, L.C.Newman, Robert Worthy, Norris Burger and the Deacons of New Zion Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with graveside services conducted by Rev. Bill Johnson. Mr. Adams will lie in state at the church Sunday, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Adams may be made to the Gideons Memorial Bible Program, East Polk County Gideon Camp, P.O.Box 485, Copperhill, TN 37317.
