Randall Junior Monkus, age 66, of Morganton, GA passed away Monday, July 15, 2013 at his home. He was born in Fannin County, GA on June 9, 1947 to the late Edgar H. Monkus and Muriel Marie Waldroup Monkus. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, was the former Fannin County Fire Chief, and was a Vietnam veteran having served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by brothers, Sammy Monkus and Eugene Monkus; a sister, Christine Monkus; and a grandson, Scottie Monkus. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sherry Monkus of Morganton; children and spouses, Shelby Monkus of Blairsville; Shawna and Greg Belt of Morganton, Farron Hensley of McCaysville, Randy Monkus of Morganton, Chris & Melissa Monkus of Morganton, and Kimberely and Randy Lamb of Morganton; sisters, Carolyn Rogers, Joyce Monkus, and Pam Monkus; brothers, Grady (Rachel) Monkus, Mark Monkus and Benny Monkus; and 14 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, July 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Denny Hawkins and Rev. Mike Collis officiating. Pallbearers were Randy Monkus, Chris Monkus, Randy Paul Lamb, Grady Monkus, Mark Monkus, Clarence Dye, Junior Bell, and Benny Monkus. Honorary pallbearers were Heath Harkins, Clayton Dye, Clay Dye, Gary Dye, Aaron Monkus, Lenny Waters, Dennis Burrell, and Dean Ware. Interment followed in Monkus Family Cemetery with full military honors by North Georgia Honor Guard and Fireman's Last Call by Fannin County Fire Department.
