Rachel Ann Ray passed away on January 13th, 2026 surrounded by those who loved her the most. She was born and raised in Isabella, Tennessee on July 20th, 1944 to Arvil and Stella Walkey. She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse Hubert Ray, her baby boy Hubert Ray Jr.; her siblings Ellen Picklesimer, Charles Walkey, Louise Boring, Judy Helton, and Margaret Roberts. Rachel was a devout Christian and a member of Rachel's Chapel formerly known as McGee Town House of Prayer. Rachel was also a member of Sequoyah Trails Rescue Squad and East Polk Fire and Rescue for many years. She was a member of Myrtle Chapter 375 Order of the Eastern Star. Rachel never met a stranger, and a lot of people might remember her from her time managing the Copperhill City Pool for many years. Rachel's greatest love and accomplishments were her children and grandchildren, she was proud to be a stay at home mom. Rachel's interests included flower arranging, listening to gospel music, attending church when she was able to, her K-9 companion, Cookie, and late night phone conversations with her sister Lottie. Rachel can best be remembered for her sense of humor, making friends easily, and her smile any time someone walked into the room.
Rachel is survived by her children, Dale (Margie) Ray, Rita (Pete) Elrod, Benita Crump (Steven Lewis), and Rozita (David) Brackett; grandchildren Carina (Allen) Walker, Matthew (Destiny) Ray, Lindsey (Logan) Davis, Daniel Brooks, Ryan (Makayla) Brooks, Lauren Brackett (Isaac Allison), and Anthony "TJ" Crump; great-grandchildren, Aisley Walker, Hutson Davis, Ryker Davis, Adalynn Davis, and Hendon Brooks; brother, Danny (Barbara) Walkey; sister, Lottie (Roger) Bagley; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff who took care of her at Diversicare of Copper Basin, as well as Dr. Mahmood Siddiqui, Dr. Hunter Jennings, and especially Gerri Black-PA, who went above and beyond to provide her with exceptional care.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 2:00 PM from the Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Joe Kemper and Brother Jeremy Tipton officiating. Music was provided by Rev. Joe Kemper, Richard Taylor, and Carl Helton. Interment followed in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Matt Ray, Ryan Brooks, TJ Crump, Logan Davis, Stevie Walkey, and Jamie Hensley. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Monteith, James Cearley, John "Jay" Cearley, Allen Walker, Pete Elrod, David Brackett, and Freddie Kelly. The family visited with friends at Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations of Copperhill on Saturday, January 17, 2026 from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
