Obituary

Peggy H. Cleveland, 91, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026. Born on March 9, 1935, in Mount Airy, North Carolina, Peggy lived a life defined by compassion, service, education, and a steadfast commitment to helping others.

Peggy earned her Doctorate in Social Work from the University of Georgia and devoted her professional life to the advancement of social work education. She served as the Head of the School of Social Work at Valdosta State University, where she inspired countless students, colleagues, and future social workers before retiring after a distinguished career.

Her dedication to serving her community extended well beyond the classroom. Peggy was an active member of Rotary International and was honored as a recipient of the prestigious Service Above Self Ribbon in recognition of her commitment to improving the lives of others.

Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl Hendrickson, her brother, Bob Hall, and her grandsons, Nicholas Cleveland and Thomas Cleveland.

She is survived by her brother, Gary Hall; her children, Craig Cleveland (Susan), Eric Cleveland, and Jennifer Cleveland; her grandchildren, Ruston Cleveland (Sadie), Natalie Rutkowski (Conner), Ava Cleveland, and Eve Cleveland; and her great-granddaughters, Charlotte Cleveland and Emma Cleveland.

A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Cherry Log Christian Church in Cherry Log, Georgia. All who knew and loved Peggy were welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cherry Log Christian Church Stephen Ministry, continuing Peggy's lifelong legacy of caring for others.

Peggy's kindness, wisdom, generosity, and unwavering belief in the dignity and worth of every person will remain an enduring inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
