The Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill announces the death of Mr. Owen, better known as "Butter Eye" Byrd, age 94, of the Life Care Center of Ducktown, who passed away Saturday, October 11, 2008. Mr. Byrd was born in Polk County to the late Robert Lee and Lue Miller Byrd. He was retired as a commercial truck driver and was preceded in death by his wife, Flossie Carroll Byrd, two sisters, Katherine Allen and Audrey Hyde. He is survived by special niece, Diane Mathis; special nephew, Ray Allen; along with other nephews, nieces and friends.Funeral services will be conducted Monday evening, October 13th at 8:00 PM from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Barry Sarvis and Rev. Greg Harper officiating. Music will be by Doug and Amy Leslie. Interment will follow Tuesday, October 14th at 11:00 AM from the Barnes Chapel cemetery.
