Obituary

Nancy Relina Brown Fletcher, age 87, of Chattanooga, TN passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026. She was born in McCaysville, GA to the late Bill Brown and Edith Queen Brown.

A devoted wife to her beloved husband of 56 years, Stephen Phillip Fletcher, Nancy was an equally loving sister to surviving sister, Helen Marie Quintrell; brother, Bobby Brown; brother and sister-in-law, William Brown and Dottie; and sisters-in-law, Camille Brown Johnson and Kay Brown Haymore. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; Bill and Edith Brown; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harvy and Lily Fletcher; her brothers, Billie Joe Brown and Jack Brown; brother-in-law, Roy Quintrell; and sister-in-law, Rachel Brown.

Nancy graduated at the age of sixteen as Valedictorian from McCaysville/Epworth High School. She received a full scholarship to Young Harris College, graduating with honors and many accomplishments. Nancy received a Ty Cobb Scholarship to attend Georgia State College for Women, graduating with an AB in Chemistry. She received a scholarship to attend Wellesley College to work on her master's degree. Nancy returned to GSCW to teach chemistry at the age of twenty. She started a career with a major drug company in Chattanooga as a chemist at the age of twenty-one. Soon after, Nancy went to work with TVA.

Nancy joined Provident Life and Accident Company in 1969 serving as a dedicated employee, retiring after thirty years as a Vice President Corporate Computer and Data Systems. She had an article published on Sunday, December 4, 1983, in the Chattanooga News-Free Press about her work at Provident. Nancy was pleasant to be around and was a diligent worker getting the job done correctly.

As athletic as she was intelligent, Nancy loved her sports. She was an avid and accomplished sports woman in golf, tennis, bowling, and basketball.
