Ms. Nan Hughes, age 67, of Morganton, Ga., passed away Wednesday, December 1, in the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga. She was a native of Paducah, Ky, and grew up in Owens Crossroads, Al. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a master's degree in education and psychology. She was retired from the Fulton County Georgia School System where she served as executive director of special education. She was very close to the special education kids and thought of her animals as her children.She is survived by her aunt, Magnolia Woodard, cousins, Scarlett Woodard, Mike and Teresa Carpenter, Anna Kathryn Carpenter, Amanda Carpenter, and Susanna Shull and many long time friends. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 4, at 2:00 PM from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Carpenter officiating. Interment followed in Owens Crossroads, Ala. on Sunday.
