Obituary

The Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill announces the death of MSgt Charles Long, age 74, of Turtletown, TN who passed away on Monday, February 6, 2012 at the Life Care Center of Copper Basin in Ducktown, TN. MSgt Long was born in Polk County, TN on June 26, 1937 to the late Louie and Mae Spurling Long. He was retired from the United States Air Force and Copper Basin Medical Center as a Registered Nurse. MSgt Long was a member of the Farner Presbyterian Church.He is survived by his wife, Lois Long of 55 years; Surviving also are son Mike (Wanda) Leath, Crossville, TN, daughter Pamela Long (Jeffery) Lane, Fairfield, CA, son Charles Mark (Cheryl) Long Farner, TN, and daughter Sandra (Jason) Smith, Paris, TN. Grandchildren are Capt. Cassandra Bates USAF, Katherine Smith, Jonathon Smith, Wesley Leath and one great-grandchild, Aiden Leath.Deceased is one brother, Herman Long.The family will receive friends Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill, TN from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. MSgt. Long will lie in state at the Farner Presbyterian Church in Farner, TN from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour of 2:00 p.m. with Pastor A. Wayne Carter officiating. Music will be provided by Nancy Boss and Linda Ledford. Interment will follow in the Farner Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Graveside Honors will be conducted by active Air Force Honor Guard. Donations may be made in memory of MSgt Long to his two favorite charities, Fisher House Foundations, www.fisherhouse.org and Remote Area Medical, www.ramus.org.
