Mr. Morris William Elrod, age 77, of McCaysville, GA passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at his home. Mr. Elrod was born on January 2, 1935 to the late Luther Lonzo Elrod and Vernie Mae Witherow Elrod. He retired from the City of Smyrna Sanitation Department after 23 years of service. Mr. Elrod was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his wife Catherine Faye Bryant Elrod and sister; Dorothy Elrod Moon. He is survived by a special friend Glenda J. Pierce of McCaysville, GA; fishing buddy, Bobby Lowery; brother, Junior Elrod of Dallas, GA; sister, Anna Stanley of Blue Ridge, GA; nieces, nephews, and a large number of other relatives and friends; Funeral services were conducted Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Don Miller and Rev. Gene Ware officiating. Music was by Eric Norton and Betty Stanley. Pallbearers were Coy Norton, James Norton, James Cain, Gary Stanley, Bill Ritchie, and Randy Harrison. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Lowery and Steve Self. Interment followed in Pleasant Hill (Airport Road) Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
