Mr. Milton Dean Hunt, Sr., age 81, of Blue Ridge, GA, passed away January 3, 2015 in the Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA. Born in Philippi, WV he was the son of the late Troy and Reta Holsberry Hunt. Mr. Hunt served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952 until 1956 and honorably discharged as a Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Alderson Broaddus College in Philippi, VV with degrees in Math and Physics. Beginning in 1961, Milton worked as a Power Generation Engineer for several Electrical Power Generating Plants. In 1976, he worked as an Inspector for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission until his retirement in 1994. Milton and his wife, Mary, moved to Blue Ridge in 1991. He served on the Zoning Commission in the late 90's and was instrumental in the negotiations with CSX for the purchase of an excursion Rail Road from Blue Ridge to McCaysville; now known as the Blue Ridge Scenic Rail Road. As a Life long servant of God, He belonged to several churches throughout his life and served in multiple roles, elder and deacon. Most recently he was a member of the Cherry Log Christian Church where he served in the choir. He also was a member of the High Country Harmonizers' for a decade. Milton was also a Master Mason and very active in the Blue Ridge Kiwanis where he served as president from 2004-2005. His hobbies included being with his family, fishing, square dancing (under the name of Henry Hoehandle), boating, playing cards, and watching college football and basketball.Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Mary M. Hunt, of the home; son, Milton Dean Hunt, Jr and wife Rhonda of Talking Rock, GA; daughter, Denise Hunt of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Adam Hunt of Talking Rock, GA, Rachel Reid of Jacksonville Beach, FL and Leah Reid of Marietta, GA; and a host of other relatives and friends.Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. from the Cherry Log Christian Church with Dr. David Griffin officiating. Music will be provided by Richard Lumpkin. Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Panter, Ken Williams, Norman Kaye, Tommy Vannoy, Tony McConnell, and Stan Hamm. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mike Shaw, Robert Green, Cecil Davis and Vaughn Galloway. Interment will follow on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in the Georgia National Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Air Force. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m. In Lieu of Flowers the family has requested that donations be made in memory of Mr. Hunt to the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association or the American Kidney Foundation.
