Obituary

Mr. Millard Henry "Mel" Johnson, age 71, of Mineral Bluff passed away Sunday, February 10, 2008 in Briarcliff Haven in Atlanta, GA. Born in Gilmer County, he was the son of the late Will Henry Johnson and Bertha Mae Stover. He worked as a Supervisor for M.A.R.T.A. He was a member of Mineral Bluff House of Prayer. He was a 32nd degree mason in Norcross Lodge #228 F&AM, was a member of Scottish Rite and a member of the Yaarab Temple in Atlanta, GA. He was a veteran serving in the United States Army in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by a son Danny Lynne Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Betty G. Johnson of Mineral Bluff; sons and daughters-law, Eddie Ray Johnson and Juanita Johnson of Loganville, GA, Ricky Leon Johnson and Cathey Johnson of Mineral Bluff, Michael Ray Johnson and Sharon Johnson of Dawsonville, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Shyrl Ane Bailey and Mikeal Bailey of Dawsonville, Deborah Gwen Thigpen of Mineral Bluff, and Debi Sue Johnson of Hoschton, GA; brother and sister-in-law, John Willard Johnson and Barbara Johnson of Dawsonville; 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Vernie Worley, Rev. Marvin Poole, and Rev. Leonard Hunter officiating. Eulogy was by Eddie Johnson. Music was by Sharon Grizzle, Kathy Allen, and Ed and Peggy Jenkins. Pallbearers were Shaun Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Joshua McDaniel, Trenton Babb, Travis Thigpen, and Chuck Touchstone. Honorary pallbearers were Greg Stinnett, Michael Babb, Cody Babb, Jack F. Panter, Jr., and Charles Anthony Panter. Military honors were by North Georgia Honor Guard. Steve Thrasher performed on the bagpipes. Interment followed in Copper Ridge Memory Gardens. Donations in memory of Mr. Johnson may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 332 N.
